FROM PORTRAIT TO PAINTING

The Psychedelic Tapestry of a Restless Mind

To me, intuitive painting has always been a celebration of life, so I decided to share it with the people around me.

The idea was born during a March portrait photoshoot by Irina and her Founders Atelier. The great experiment took place one weekend in June in Lisboa, bringing together 10 people from 8 different countries to paint on a massive backdrop that the studio's photographers would otherwise have disposed of.

There were guides and no theme given, just a bunch of acrylic tubes in different colours, some wine with snacks, lots of tools, and jazz fusion music by Berlioz.

When I look at the final canvas now, it feels like a visual stream of consciousness.

Loud, beautiful, and delightfully overwhelming. A potential title could be: The Psychedelic Tapestry of a Restless Mind. An interconnected web of intuitive thoughts woven together.

It is packed with a massive variety of contrasting motifs. We see structured geometric patterns and checkboxes clashing against fluid, melting shapes, alongside recognisable imagery like a central sun-like face, a cactus, hidden text, and watchful eyes peering out from different corners. It’s wild.

The intention was not to make people feel uncomfortable. But some told me that this session was definitely something where they stepped outside their comfort zone.

We had a mix of creatives in the room, as well as those who do not indulge in regular painting. The aim was to bring everyone’s full attention and presence into this studio and moment, and to have a good time. No judgment of any stroke, but respect for each’s painted space.

In the room were two marketers, a CEO, a dog, a photographer, an auditor, a lawyer, a teacher, and three entrepreneurs.

This was the first session from the Colouresko Your Life initiative. A second will come after the summer.
